LOS ANGELES, March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- "Lawyers by day, rock stars by night" was the theme last Friday, March 1st, when seven bands made up of legal professionals took the stage in front of a sell-out crowd at the Whisky a Go-Go for the annual Law Rocks! "Battle of the Bands" charity event.

Run DLA, formed by members of DLA Piper LLP, channeled the likes of Run DMC, Tina Turner and Justin Timberlake to take home first prize and donate $44,000to Run DLA's designated charity, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

In all, over $100,000 was raised for Los Angeles area charities.

"After taking second place in last year's Law Rocks! battle, Run DLA was determined to bring home the win and put on an impressive performance, both on stage and with its fundraising efforts," said Brandt Mori , Co-Founder of Law Rocks!.

Other firms competing in the event included Latham & Watkins LLP, Perkins Coie , Cox Castle & Nicholson LLP, Venable LLP/Ziffren Brittenham LLP, Spertus, Landes & Umhofer, and the London firm, Landmark Chambers.

The net proceeds were split among the bands' respective designated charities based on each band's total score. Scoring was determined by a combination of audience voting, voting by a panel of judges, and total fundraising.

Last year's champion, Exposition Deposition (Venable LLP/Ziffren Brittenham LLP), nearly stole the show with an amazing set in the headlining slot and ultimately took second place. Law Rocks! will donate $22,500 to Exposition Deposition's designated charity, The Painted Turtle.

"The success of this year's show exceeded even our highest of expectations," said Ted Scott , Co-Founder of Law Rocks!. "The talent level of these bands is incredible. We've set the bar high for future shows."
