DENVER, 29 September 2014 – Hogan Lovells today announced that Richard "Rick" Hosley has joined the Litigation practice as Partner in the firm’s Denver office. Hosley joins from the Department of Justice (DOJ), where he was an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) and Chief of the Major Crimes Section for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.

“As exports of defense, aviation, aerospace and other high-tech products have increased, government agencies have made export and counter proliferation investigations a top priority,” said Cole Finegan, Regional Managing Partner of the Americas and Managing Partner of the firm’s Denver office. “Colorado, home to a number of defense contractors, is a hub for such exports, and Rick’s experience uniquely qualifies him to advise clients engaging in cross-border business.”

In his role as Chief of Major Crimes, Hosley was a supervisory federal prosecutor responsible for the prosecution and litigation of federal crimes in Colorado, focusing on immigration, firearms, violent crimes, drug trafficking offenses, and export and counter proliferation national security cases. His successful trial experience in these areas will broaden the firm’s jurisdictional reach and strengthen its ability to handle cross-border and international disputes.

“I am eager to begin the next chapter of my legal career with the high caliber Hogan Lovells team,” said Hosley. “I very much look forward to offering my trial experience and knowledge of the federal courts, Department of Justice, and law enforcement agencies to help firm clients deal with complex investigations.”

Hosley has eight years of experience at DOJ, and has tried more than 50 cases in federal, state and military courts. Of those, more than 20 were felony cases in federal district courts, including complex, multi-defendant murder and conspiracy trials. He has also led hundreds of federal investigations and regularly counseled supervisors and agents from federal law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI, Homeland Security, and the U.S. Secret Service. A United States Marine Corps officer, Hosley served as legal advisor to a Commanding Officer of more than 1000 troops in Iraq and as Chief Trial Counsel at a Marine Corps Air Station in Japan.

Hosley is the winner of the 2013 Department of Justice Director’s Award for excellence in litigation. He received his B.A. from Drake University and his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law.
