(November 25, 2014) SAN FRANCISCO – Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Aaron Murphy has joined the firm’s Government Enforcement, Compliance & White Collar Defense Practice as a partner in its San Francisco office.

Murphy has significant experience in anti-corruption compliance and investigations for large and mid-sized companies. As the author of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act: A Practical Resource for Managers and Executives, he has advised clients on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) matters across the world and has led dozens of investigations across 25 countries over more than 13 years. At Foley, Murphy will focus on FCPA compliance counseling, including internal investigations, disclosures and negotiated resolutions with the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. His FCPA resource book is expected to be released soon in China (in Mandarin).

“We are thrilled to welcome someone with Aaron's extensive knowledge and experience handling FCPA investigations and compliance projects in dozens of countries,” said Michael Tuteur, chair of Foley’s Litigation Department. "As part of our continued growth of the firm's compliance and anti-corruption enforcement practice, Aaron brings a deep understanding of the issues facing our clients conducting business globally in a continually evolving legal landscape.”

In addition to FCPA matters, Murphy will advise clients on domestic white collar corruption matters including money laundering, mail and wire fraud, qui tam litigation, criminal tax matters and SEC enforcement actions.

“Aaron’s practice covers a comprehensive scope of bribery and corruption matters, which will be invaluable to our clients. His accomplishments to date are impressive, and we are excited to add his expertise to our growing Bay Area presence and particularly our California white collar bench,” said Thomas F. Carlucci, managing partner of Foley’s San Francisco office.

Murphy joins Foley from Akin Gump, where he was a partner with the firm’s litigation group. At the beginning of his career, he served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Sidney R. Thomas of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 1999-2000.
