Several studies have determined that the DePuy ASR™ implants have been failing for various reasons such as cup loosening, metallosis and high levels of cobalt-chromium ions in a patient's body. The ASR devices were formally recalled on August 24, 2010. The DePuy recall letter noted revision rates of 13% after 5 years, which were already higher than industry standards. New data presented at the British Hip Society Annual Conference in March 2011 revealed a failure rate of 21% at 4 years and 49% at 6 years! This means a patient with an ASR device has an almost 50% chance of needing a revision surgery to replace it after only 6 years.
The Wright Medical Conserve® Cup features a similar design to the DePuy ASR™ Cup. The Wright Conserve® Hip Implant System is a metal-on-metal design, which consists of cast cobalt chromium molybdenum that provides the receptacle for the cobalt chromium molybdenum femoral head. The metal femoral head rotates within the metal monoblock Conserve® Cup, without a liner, resulting in the release of metal particles that can cause metal toxicity in the blood, soft tissue and bone. This can result in metallosis, tissue necrosis, pseudotumors and other serious health problems.
ABC News Interviews Child Abuse Lawyer, Raymond Boucher
ABC News spoke with attorney Raymond Boucher, who has led the fight nationally to protect our children from sexual abusers. Boucher has brought fundamental change to the way large organizations recognize and deal with evidence of child abuse. He sees in the LA Unfied School Disctrict the same pratices that allow sexual abusers to continue preying on our inncoent children.
"Rather than take the steps to protect these kids, rather than making sure the door is open, make sure that there's a monitor, check to see that he's doing things properly, interview some of the students...what they did is they sanitized his file," said attorney Raymond P. Boucher. "They took those complaints out and trashed them, so that the next time a complaint happened or took place, nobody knew anything about it."

Avandia Ordered to Mediation
U.S. District Judge Cynthia M. Rufe stayed the MDL and gave the parties 75 days to resolve at least 85 percent of the cases, which allege that GSK concealed the diabetes medications' potential to cause heart attack and stroke in some patients.
If the 85 percent benchmark is not reached by the deadline, the court will put the first 100 cases filed in the docket on a fast track to a trial, Judge Rufe said. All discovery in those cases will be completed in 60 days, the judge said.
She appointed attorney Patrick A. Juneau Jr. of Juneau David PC in Louisiana to act as mediator.
"I am hopeful that attorneys will want to participate, and that GSK will enter in good faith discussions to bring the cases to resolution," lead plaintiffs' counsel Paul R. Kiesel of Kiesel Boucher & Larson LLP said.

The recent arrests of former Penn State defensive coordinator Gerald "Jerry" Sandusky, as well as two Penn State officials, Athletic Director Tim Curley and Senior VP for Finance and Business Gary Schultz, are a sobering reminder that those who are responsible for the administration of some of our most venerable and trusted institutions - schools, churches, charities, and governmental entities included - are all too susceptible to the irrational practice of making protection of peers, employees, institutional reputations, and revenue streams a higher priority than the safety, security, and dignity of the most vulnerable members of society, our children. In the case of Gerald Sandusky, multiple opportunities to put a stop to his serial sexual assaults on young boys were squandered in deference to status quo, resulting in severe, unwarranted, and preventable damage to several young lives.
