Secret Documents Out of Reach

It looks like the newly elected Democratic majority is not going to give up its efforts to get Bush administration documents about the CIA's interrogation practices for suspected terrorists. Sen. Leahy from Vermont is leading the charge and may end up using subpoenas, possibly setting the stage for a long legal fight. Leahy was notified in late December that the administration would not be turning over some key documents, and he appears pretty angry over the rejection. "It is disappointing that the Department of Justice and the White House have squandered another opportunity to work cooperatively with Congress," he said.

Bush, in which the Supreme Court said that U.S. courts have jurisdiction to hear challenges from Guantanamo detainees.
