- Toyota State Suits Move Ahead
The National Law Journal’s series on the Toyota litigation, Suing Toyota, provides a number of interesting tidbits about the carmaker’s pending legal troubles. One article focuses on the rapidly moving developments in state courts, even as the federal cases get consolidated into the MDL going on in Santa Ana, Calif. In the state cases, plaintiffs’ lawyers have already deposed Toyota executives. One of the lawyers, R. Graham Esdale Jr., says: "If you've got people injured and hurt, it's not fair to have them sit for years and years because this has turned into a big, complex litigation." According to the article, a case to watch is going on in Genesee County Circuit Court, in Michigan, which involves a woman’s death following a sudden acceleration of her Camry.
Separate articles in the NLJ series take a critical look at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s role in Toyota investigations, and at Toyota’s relationship with Congress. Those two articles are subscription only, but the NLJ’s comprehensive chart on the litigation is available to all.
