- Almost bar exam time
There's still more than a week before the Multistate Bar Examination, but for those of you who are about to take the plunge it might be good to look at worst-case probabilities. Namely, that you fail. To that end, Abovethelaw has put together a list of notables who failed the first time(s) around. Here's a sampler:
--Jerry Brown: Attorney General of California (and former California governor). Failed the California bar once before passing.
--Hllary Clinton: U.S. senator and presidential candidate. Failed the D.C. bar exam in the 1970s, but passed the Arkansas bar.
--Kathleen Sullivan: Former dean of Stanford law school. Failed the California bar exam when she took it in July 2005. She passed it the following year.
--Pete Wilson: Former California governor. Failed the California bar exam three times, before passing on his fourth try.
So you see, it happens. For the uninitiated, the Multistate Bar Examination is a standardized, multiple-choice exam that's given all over the country on the last Wednesdays in July and February. The exam has 200 questions on subjects based on principles of common law and Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code.
