- ‘Judge Alex’ gets cancelled
The Supremes are out with a medley of decisions today, but everyone is pouncing on the "Judge Alex" case because, well, it's show biz and the perfect late-night one-liner - as in the TV judge who was wise in front of the camera, but couldn't get out of his own little tangle. The high court ruled 8-1 that Alex Ferrer, a former Florida Circuit Judge, must go to arbitration with his dispute over his attorney. Ferrer refused to pay a management fee to Arnold Preston after the two men had signed a contract that called for arbitration of any disputes. Ferrer says Preston is not entitled to the fees because he isn't a licensed talent agent. He filed a complaint with the California Labor Commissioner, seeking to invalidate a contract, but the court said that when you agree to abritrate - as Ferrer did - you have to arbitrate. Really. Here's the decision. It just so happens that I was unfamiliar with Judge Alex so I checked out his Web site.
From consumer complaints, landlord disputes and co-worker conflicts, to confrontations between family and friends, JUDGE ALEX will provide his litigants with fair, firm and fast justice. With more than 20 years of experience, Judge Alex Ferrer is respected by his peers, extremely knowledgeable of the law, and well-equipped to handle highly charged cases in a fair and insightful manner. JUDGE ALEX will take control of his court room by delivering a straight forward, decisive and tough brand of justice. And, in accordance with the likes of Judge Judy and Judge Mablean, JUDGE ALEX will take advantage of the humor found in his cases.
