Mr. Garnett is a Shareholder in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Litigation Group. He has a diverse practice encompassing all aspects of commercial and real estate litigation. ColoradoBiz Magazine listed Mr. Garnett as one of five "Best Lawyers When Filing Suit" in their "Best of Colorado Business" feature. In April, 2004, Mr. Garnett was inducted into the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers. The University of Colorado School of Law awarded Mr. Garnett its 2005 Alumni Award for Distinguished Achievement.
In June 2006, Mr. Garnett won one of the largest judgments in US District Court for the Southern District of Florida with a $39 million judgment in Kobarid Holdings S.A. et al. v. Reizen, 03cv23269 (S.D. Fla. 2006). The jury ordered a South Florida businessman to pay nearly $19 million in damages (including $5.9 million in punitive damages) to an Italian family who claimed it lost millions in an embezzlement scheme. Upon entering the judgment the judge trebled the damages at just over $39 million. The judgment was ranked #41 on the list of “The Top 100 Jury Verdicts of 2006” by American
Lawyer and Verdict Search.
Mr. Garnett served as lead counsel for the John Elway defendants in a leading commercial case, Nelson v. Elway, 908 P.2d 102 (Colo. 1995) and 971 P.2d 245 (Colo. App. 1998) and for a primary defendant, ICC, in the Summitville CERCLA Litigation, United States and Colorado v. Friedland, et al., 152 F. Supp. 1234 (D. Colo. 2001); and 173 F. Supp. 1077 (D. Colo. 2001). He represented Farallon Capital Management of San Francisco in litigation involving the creation of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, Stockman’s Water v. Vaca Partners, 425 F. 3d 1263 (10th Cir. 2005), and Congressman Mark Udall in Colorado's nationally watched Congressional redistricting case, Salazar v. Davidson, 79 P3d 1221 (Colo. 2003).
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Garnett was a deputy district attorney in the Denver District Attorney's office.
