Prior to joining the Heimberg Law Group, Mr. Wood was a partner at Veatch, Carlson, Grogan & Nelson, where he handled
medical malpractice defense, working for hospitals, doctors and others in the medical community.
Mr. Wood realized that his heart was in advocating for the injured, and in 1997 he decided to join the Heimberg Law Group.
Since then, Mr. Wood has been a vital member of the team.
Legal Strategies
Mr. Wood is the “strategic mastermind” of the firm. He consistently develops and improves legal strategies to benefit
Heimberg Law Group clients. For example, Mr. Wood has been enormously successful in limiting the scope of MICRA and in
attacking laws, such as ERISA, that help keep HMO's and other medical businesses from being held legally accountable for
medical malpractice.
Mr. Wood also is remarkable for his unusual persistence and enormous tenacity. There are no limits to the efforts he will
make to understand a complex issue or to pursue a cause he believes in.
Many of the most skillful defense experts and the most overly confident defendants have melted under the heat of Mr. Wood’s
interrogations.
A Background in Advocacy
Mr. Wood's background in advocacy started at a young age. At the age of 18, Mr. Wood was selected a member of the
California Democratic State Central Committee, the youngest member who had ever served.
By the age of 19, Mr. Wood was elected to the Sweetwater Union (San Diego) School Board. He served 10 years on the board,
with three of them as chairperson.
Mr. Wood also served as a congressional and senatorial legislative assistant.
While attending the University of San Diego School of Law, Mr. Wood clerked for two years at Bauer & Schultz, joining the
firm as an attorney once he was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1981.
In 1984, Mr. Wood joined Coyle, Marrone & Robinson, known for its toxic tort and personal injury defense litigation, where he worked until going to Veatch, Carlson.
