Mike Gerrard's colleagues say they respect him not just for his environmental practice, but for his deep and scholarly knowledge of the law. "He reads everything," says one competitor. "He's just so incredibly learned," says another, who attributed to Gerrard a "mind that never stops working and inquiring into this area." No wonder, then, that Gerrard has taught as an adjunct professor at the law schools of both Columbia and Yale. Gerrard's practice includes litigation and helping businesses proceed with development projects: Madison Square Garden is one of his clients. When not helping clients clear regulatory hurdles, Gerrard is general counsel of the Municipal Art Society of New York, which advocates for historical preservation and good new urban design.
