EDITORIAL REVIEW
Noted for her decisions in criminal and civil rights cases, Gertner “has done so much that is new and challenging.” That includes ruling in 2005 that jurors should be drafted equally from different socio-economic regions of the state to ensure diversity. The federal appeals court later reversed. Other interesting decisions include her 2003 ruling for the city of Lynn when a group of parents tried to stop desegregation of the city’s public schools. Local lawyers say Gertner is “a very bright judge.”
