Charles Packer is a member of the

& Tax Planning Department. He originally joined Hopkins & Carley in 1995, and returned to the firm in 2006 after a six
year hiatus.
Mr. Packer focuses his practice in the areas of strategic planning for high net worth individuals and families, through
estate, gift and philanthropic tax planning.
Mr. Packer chairs the
Planned Giving
Advisory Board at Santa Clara University, is on the board of directors of the
International Science & Engineering Fair 2010
Association, is a member of the
Jewish Community Endowment
Fund’s Legal and Tax Professional subcommittee, is a member of the
Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and is involved with numerous other charitable, civic
and professional organizations. Mr. Packer was selected as a Northern California Super Lawyer by Law & Politics and San
Francisco magazines for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Mr. Packer holds a Juris Doctor degree from
Santa Clara University
School of Law, a master’s degree in business administration from
Santa Clara University Graduate School of Business, and a bachelor’s degree in social ecology from the
University of California, Irvine. Mr. Packer was admitted to the
State Bar of California in 1981,
and is admitted to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and to the
United States Tax Court.
Before rejoining Hopkins & Carley, Mr. Packer headed up the Northern California Private Client Group (Trust & Estates) for
DLA Piper (formerly Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich) in Palo Alto.
