Marc P. Miles is an experienced civil litigator, who specializes in complex business litigation and
employment law cases. Mr. Miles additionally handles numerous intellectual property matters, including copyright,
trademark, false advertising and trade secret litigation. His broad variety of experience also includes cases concerning
catastrophic injury and wrongful death.
In August 2007, Mr. Miles secured a $9.4 million settlement for one of his business clients in a heavily litigated case
stemming from a product defect. Two months later, Mr. Miles and the balance of the trial team obtained a $50 million
settlement for two women who were rendered quadriplegic when struck by a motorist while jogging in the City of Dana Point.
This is currently the largest settlement of its kind in the entire nation.
In 2003, Mr. Miles, along with Dan Callahan and Brian McCormack, obtained the largest jury verdict in Orange County’s
history, when a jury awarded their corporate client more than $934 million in a breach of contract and fraud case. This
record-breaking verdict was the largest in California and the second largest in the nation that year.
Mr. Miles has also handled a variety of complex appeals, which include having successfully argued before the Federal Fourth
Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
In June 2009, Mr. Miles was recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine. This honor is reserved for the
top 2.5% of lawyers in Southern California under the age of 40. This is the fifth year in a row that he has received this
honor.
Mr. Miles graduated from Southwestern University School of Law, where he served on the Board of Governors for the
Interscholastic Trial Advocacy Program. As part of an elite trial team, Mr. Miles competed in the prestigious ABA National
Trial Advocacy Competition in Chicago, where he finished third in the nation.
Mr. Miles obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Irvine, in Criminology, Law & Society. He
was admitted to the California Supreme Court in 1998, and is also licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the
U.S. District Court for the Central, Eastern and Southern Districts of California, and the Second Circuit, Fourth Circuit
and Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals.
Mr. Miles has excelled at both the trial and appellate levels. His published decisions include: In Re: Blackwater
Security Consulting, 460 F.3d 576 (4th Cir. 2006), cert. denied, 127 S. Ct. 1381 (2007); Nordan v. Blackwater
Security Consulting, 382 F.Supp.2d 801 (EDNC 2005); Goleta v. Ordway, 166 F.Supp. 1287 (2001); Day v.
Fontana, 25 Cal.4th 268 (2001); and Cruz v. Briseno, 22 Cal.4th 568 (2000). Mr. Miles is a native of Southern
California.
