Prominent clients such as Bayer, DuPont and General Motors have sought Fred Bartlit's expertise. But he is perhaps best known for his defense of President Bush in 2000, when Vice President Al Gore challenged the presidential election results in Florida. His work has earned him the title "best defense lawyer in the country." Bartlit also has been on the other side of disputes, including a 2002 case in which he successfully represented plaintiff Bayer in a patent-infringement suit against Carlsbad Technology. Future generations of aspiring lawyers also will be familiar with his name. Following a $2 million gift from lawyers at his firm, the Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago established the Fred Bartlit Center for Trial Strategy in 1999 to teach trial skills. This attorney is a member of the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
