From her home base in Miami, Hilarie Bass leads her firm's litigation department and represents clients in an array of cases. Her expertise ranges from commercial litigation and receiverships to class action defense and alternative dispute resolution. Powerful clients, including Microsoft, Hilton Hotels and Goldman Sachs, have hired Bass to help them in troubled times. Bass defended Microsoft in a Florida class action that alleged the software giant violated the state's unfair trade practices law, a case that the company settled in 2003 for $200 million. Bass also has taken on leadership positions in the legal community. The American Bar Association in 2002 tapped her to serve on the Commission on Women in the Profession, which tries to promote equality for women in the legal field. She also was named business woman of the year in 2001 by the South Florida Business Journal.
