Ralph Baxter has expanded his firm's global reach, and he has been rewarded for his efforts. He was re-elected chairman and CEO of the San Francisco-based firm in February, a position he has held since 1990. Since he took over the helm, the firm has added 500 lawyers and has opened offices in Rome, Paris, London, Taiwan, Singapore and Tokyo. The firm has 750 lawyers in 15 offices. Baxter also has won praise for his innovations in law firm management. In 2002, the firm opened a facility in West Virginia to consolidate its technology, finance and human resources operations, attracted by the state's low cost of business. The facility is open around-the-clock to serve all of its offices worldwide.
