Mark Robinson vaulted onto the national legal scene in 1978 with his landmark $128 million verdict in the Ford Pinto exploding fuel tank case. The plaintiffs' lawyer has since brought major product liability cases against GM, Firestone and Bayer. He helped Orange County, Calif., reach settlements with ARCO and Shell Oil for leaking the chemical MTBE into the soil. ARCO paid out $8 million, while Shell settled for $14.5 million.

Mark P. Robinson, Jr. is the senior partner with Robinson, Calcagnie & Robinson in Newport Beach, California. In 2006 he was selected by The Best Lawyers in America as one of the Los Angeles Area's Best Lawyers. In 2005 he was named one of the Top 500 Lawyers in America, and for the fourth year in a row, he was named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in the State of California. Mr. Robinson received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and graduated cum laude from Loyola School of Law. He has devoted his legal career to product safety, has been counsel or co-counsel in cases in over 20 states, and has handled hundreds of products liability cases. In 2006 he served as lead trial counsel for the plaintiff in Barnett v. Merck, which resulted in a $51 million jury award, and the first verdict for a plaintiff in a federal Vioxx trial. His other noteworthy litigation successes with his co-counsel include the following: The $4.9 Billion verdict in Anderson v. General Motors, the $3.3 Billion Los Angeles County tobacco settlement, the $128 Million Ford Pinto fire verdict, the $69 Million Baycol settlement, the $15 Million Hyundai seatbelt verdict, a 9.2 Million seatback verdict against Nissan, a 9.1 Million crashworthiness judgment against General Motors, and the $6 Million judgment against Ford Motor Company in the famous Kentucky school bus case. The Ford Pinto verdict was recognized by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America as one of the ten most significant civil trials of the past millennium.
In 2008, he was named California ABOTA Trial Lawyer of the Year for the State of California. In 2008, he was also honored by the Anti-Defamation League with one of two jurisprudence awards in Orange County, California. In 2007, he received the Champion of Justice Award from the Civil Justice Program in Southern California. In 2006 he was named "Mass Tort Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association. In 1996 and 1978 Mr. Robinson was honored by the OCTLA as "Personal Injury Trial Lawyer of the Year." He has served as a Board Member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), the National Board of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the Association of Business Trial Lawyers Orange County Chapter, the Attorneys Information Exchange Group (AIEG), and the International Society of Barristers. He is past President of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, and in 2001 he served as President of the Orange County Bar Association Charitable Fund. He has also served as Lawyer Representative to the 9th Circuit Judicial Conference (1999-2002). He is a founding member of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice and Attorneys Information Exchange Group as well as a member of the Institute for Injury Reduction. In 1999 Mr. Robinson was selected by California Lawyer Magazine as one of the "Lawyers of the Year" in the state of California. In 2001, California Law Business named him one of the top ten "Most Influential Lawyers in California," according to a survey of attorneys.
Mr. Robinson was co-lead trial counsel for several coordinated cases against tobacco product manufacturers. He currently serves on the Executive Committee for the Castano Litigation Group, and represented the County of Los Angeles and Gray Davis in private attorney general lawsuits against the tobacco industry. He is also co-counsel with the Orange County, California District Attorney in underground storage tank litigation against various oil companies. He also serves on the Plaintiffs' State Liaison Committee of the Multi-District Diet Drug Product Liability Litigation (Fen-Phen) and is Plaintiffs' Liaison Counsel for the California Coordinated Diet Drug Litigation, the California Coordinated PPA Litigation and the California Coordinated Rezulin Litigation, and the California Coordinated Firestone Tire Litigation. He has also been appointed to the Plaintiffs' Executive Committee in the California Coordinated Vioxx litigation and the California Coordinated Ortho Evra litigation, and was appointed Plaintiffs' Co-Lead Counsel in the California coordinated Baycol litigation. He is a member of the Executive Committee for the Ford/Firestone Multi-District Litigation, a member of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in the Bextra and Celebrex Marketing and Sales Practices and Product Liability Litigation, a member of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee for the Rezulin Multi-District Litigation, a member of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee for the Baycol Multi-District Litigation, a member of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in the Medtronic Sprint Fidelis Leads Product Liability Litigation, and an Ex-Officio Member of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee and chairperson of the State Liaison Committee for the Propulsid Multi-District Litigation.
