The former Texas State Bar President is considered one of the top personal injury lawyers in the Lone Star State, having carved out a specialty in legal malpractice. In 2005, he settled a case stemming from a 1998 killing in which a police detective's son used a police gun to murder four people and himself. Spivey originally won a $35 million jury verdict, which the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals tossed. The case settled for $1 million.
