John Coffee is an academic who is regarded as "one of the real authorities on federal securities and corporate law." The Columbia Law School professor has written extensively on the topic, and the media often turn to him for commentary on the business world. Coffee is cited frequently in law reviews, and he serves as an expert witness in a variety of cases. He also provides his expertise to law-reform commissions. Coffee sat on a Securities and Exchange Commission advisory committee on capital formation during the 1990s, and he is a member of a Canadian task force charged with modernizing securities regulation. And Coffee has testified before Congress on the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995 and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
