Consulting services you provide:
I help law firms achieve profitable growth through superior strategic planning and marketing. I work with my clients to craft powerful marketing programs that resonate with law firm clients. I help my clients meet complex challenges in the areas of marketing strategy, brand strategy and delivery, marketing spending efficiency and effectiveness, customer research, marketing plan implementation, and marketing organization and capability building.

How did you come to hold your present position (specifically, what led you to become a legal recruiter, marketing consultant, etc.)?
I came to the legal industry as a strategist and marketer after many years in the corporate sector. I spent ten years at Kraft Foods where I had P&L responsibility for a range of the company's products and managed strategy and marketing to achieve profitability and market share goals. For example, as Category Business Director for Kraft Singles, an $870 million business, I led a team of 50 in developing profitability and marketing strategies. I then served as Senior Vice President of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States where I developed industry-wide strategy and positioning for the $34 billion distilled spirits industry. My introduction to the legal industry came as CMO at Howrey (formerly Howrey Simon Arnold & White) from 2000-2006 where I was responsible for strategy and marketing. There I developed and launched new positioning and advertising for the firm. After Howrey shortened its name I led the development of the firm's new corporate identity. As Howrey extended its footprint to London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Paris, I developed and implemented the marketing plan for each of those offices. I led the firm’s strategic planning initiatives and was instrumental in the integration of a major merger partner. I joined Zeughauser Group in 2006 and have since enjoyed the opportunity to help AmLaw 200 clients with a complete range of strategic challenges including merger integration, marketing organization design, branding, advertising, customer research, and marketing planning and integration.

What is the best thing about working with lawyers?
I love working with lawyers because they are often the smartest people in the room and as professional advocates, they challenge me to do my very best work. They often combine an intense intellect with a fierce sense of humor so they keep me laughing while they keep me on my toes. I have also come to appreciate that our legal system is critical to the success of our economy and I love being at the center of the system. Most lawyers I know are committed to keeping the system honest and give generously of their time to ensure justice for all. There is a great deal of honor in this often maligned profession.

What is the worst thing about working with lawyers?
My role as a consultant is to help my clients run their law firms better and, ultimately, more profitably. Because most lawyers I work with are highly focused on serving their clients, they do not always spend the time they know they should on firm strategy, marketing and business development. We marketers must be tenacious at grabbing and maintaining their attention so that we can achieve the results our clients ask for and deserve.

What has been the most satisfying moment of your career thus far?
I have been fortunate to have had many satisfying moments in my career but one of the highlights was when I joined Zeughauser Group. I am honored to be part of this consultancy. I knew the firm well before I joined because we worked together extensively when I was CMO of Howrey. The firm is characterized by high quality work, integrity, commitment to its clients, intense internal collaboration and caring deeply for each other.

What are your favorite activities outside the law?
I spend my free time with my husband of 26 years and our two teenagers. We travel for fun even though I spend a lot of time traveling for work. We love food, wine, books and our garden. I am active in my community and serve as Treasurer of our local Episcopal Church.
