Best moment of career:
Making partner at Gibson Dunn.

Worst moment of career:
I can't point to any specific moment, but it undoubtedly involved making a mistake. Most mistakes are fixable if admitted to and properly addressed, but nonetheless are painful to deal with at the moment.

Attorney you most admire:
Francis M. Wheat. Frank was a senior partner of Gibson Dunn when I joined the Firm. He was truly a giant of the Bar. As an SEC Commissioner, he literally re-wrote modern-day securities laws with his so-called "Wheat Report." He was enormously involved in the community and had a significant impact on everyone and everything he touched.

Favorite activities (besides the Law):
Golf, travel, tennis, food & wine.

Favorite Sports Team (if you have one), or Favorite Theater or Museum, etc:
Sports: Having gone to Stanford as an undergrad, I would reluctantly say the USC Football team.
Theater: Disney Hall
Museum: MuseƩ d'Orsay |

What is your proudest accomplishment on behalf of your firm:
Three things: Helping to raise our profile as the "go to" Firm for high stakes litigation and major transactions in the world's major markets; increasing our pro bono efforts (raising our pro bono hours by over 170% in the past 3 years); and increasing our strong commitment to diversity (gender and ethnicity) within the Firm.

If there is one thing you could do over as managing partner/chairperson, what is it?
I am sure there are many things, but as I am now just beginning in the second year of my second term, I am still in the thick of it and am not in the best position to reflect back on all my decisions (particularly since the consequences of today's decisions often play out over a number of years).

Is there anything - an individual, a double espresso, a good 4:30 a.m. workout - you consider essential to your success?
A supportive family (my wife and three teenage daughters).
