Stephen D. Miller, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and former federal prosecutor, has defended corporations, political figures and others against federal and state criminal investigations and indictments for more than thirty years. He has extensive jury trial experience, having begun his career as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California, where he served in both the civil and criminal divisions.His past successes in private practice have included the defenses of Sears, Roebuck against a federal indictment for customs fraud (877 F.2d 734, 1989 U.S. App. LEXIS 6021 (9th Cir. 1989)), General Dynamics Corporation for government contracts fraud (644 F. Supp. 1497, 1986 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 19574 (C.D. Cal. 1986)), and former Mayor Tom Bradley against allegations of political corruption. He has represented many other lesser known people charged in California state courts with serious felonies, including murder.
Mr. Miller’s skills and accomplishments have been well recognized. He was elected to Fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1981. The publishers of Los Angeles Magazine named him one of Southern California’s “Super Lawyers” in their inaugural list in 2004 and again in 2005. For many years, Mr. Miller has been featured in the referral guide “The Best Lawyers in America”. He has taught courses in civil and criminal trial advocacy at the Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and has lectured to various professional groups on a wide variety of legal subjects, including jury selection, the defense of criminal cases, and the conduct of corporate internal investigations.
