Lawdragon currently produces three different types of guides: The Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America, our annual "lawyers of the year" look at the best of the profession; our new Insight Guides to outside counsel that focus on a particular practice area or industry; and an annual guide to the most powerful employment lawyers produced with Human Resource Excecutive Magazine. More information about each guide is found below.
THE LAWDRAGON 500
Each year, we publish The Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America – the most elite guide in the legal profession. The Lawdragon 500 is always presented in print and in digital-magazine format in our highly-acclaimed magazine.
Note on Methodology: The leading lawyer guides are selected from a combination of editorial research by Lawdragon staff; submissions from law firms; and an online ballot that allows visitors to our site to vote for and comment on their favorite lawyers. Our own editorial research is the most important factor in the selection process, but firm submissions and online voting are both extremely helpful.
We also review evaluations of attorneys that come in through our evaluation system open year round.
The 2012 Lawdragon 500 was published online on Dec. 31.
**THE 2013 LAWDRAGON 500 SCHEDULE**
♦ Online ballot posted April 22, 2013 (nominations sent by email before April 22 will still count towards the 2013 guide)
♦ Voting and submissions close Sept. 17, 2013 — an extension from the initial deadline of Sept. 9
♦ Lawdragon 500 list posted online online on Dec. 31, 2013
♦ The full 500 guide with photos and other features published in print in Lawdragon Magazine in Spring 2014.
What to send for submissions: Some firms only provide us with names to consider; other firms prefer to send supporting information for each lawyer, which typically is about a paragraph or two of accomplishments with an emphasis on recent legal matters from the past year. Supporting information is helpful.
Firms that send submissions by the Sept. 17 deadline (previously Sept. 9) will be able to provide updates from Sept. 18 up until the posting of the list.
We are happy to receive inquiries at email@example.com. You can also call editor John Ryan at 213-446-3726 to discuss these matters.
LAWDRAGON INSIGHT GUIDES
Lawdragon Insight Guides are the insider’s look at top outside counsel as chosen by the world’s leading in-house lawyers.
Developed by an editorial team with more than 50 years experience in legal research and reporting, we have devised a new approach to tired lawyer directories. After extensive consultation with hundreds of top corporate counsel, we identified the need for a more exclusive guide, which provides more in-depth detail on the strengths and styles of leading outside counsel.
We will release three to four Lawdragon Insights per year, segmented by industry and practice with particular emphasis on areas in which there is increased interest and activity. General counsel have told us that they have plenty of information on existing significant practice leaders, but what they would find of great value is information on such lawyers in emerging practices and jurisdictions. As well, we will pay special attention to younger lawyers, including senior associates to help you uncover the next generation of world-class lawyers.
Our methodology will be the anchor of each guide. Each will be vetted with clients at the top of the relevant practice area to report on trends as well as objective metrics on leading firms. Each guide will be published online at Lawdragon.com and in print form, distributed to in-house counsel and by subscription. The Insights will offer interviews with leading in-house counsel, as well as Firm Reports analyzing the strengths of individual practices and lawyers.
We will publish the first Lawdragon Insights in Spring 2013. It will be focused on Private Funds. Other upcoming titles include Healthcare, Data Security and Privacy.
Firms may submit information for consideration to Catherine McGregor at firstname.lastname@example.org. No particular format is necessary. Our analysis of lawyers is based on market knowledge and performance. It is our goal to find and report on the very best lawyers as selected by corporate counsel.
THE GUIDE TO WORLD-CLASS EMPLOYMENT LAWYERS
Lawdragon also produces an annual guide to the nation’s most powerful employment lawyers that is produced with Human Resource Executive and is released in June each year. In 2012, we released the list as The Guide to World-Class Employment Lawyers.
The 2013 Guide to World-Class Employment Lawyers will be published in June online on Lawdragon.com and in Human Resource Executive Magazine.
Submissions for the 2014 guide will begin in December of 2013. The submissions period is typically open for about a month.
