DALLAS, Sept. 12 -- Thomas F. Allen, Jr., has joined the Dallas Office of global law firm Jones Day as a partner in the Issues & Appeals Practice. Formerly a partner at Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal, L.L.P., he has extensive experience representing clients before the Supreme Court of Texas, intermediate Texas courts of appeals, and federal courts of appeals.

"Thomas is a seasoned and successful appeals lawyer whose capabilities will be a significant supplement to our litigation practice," said Pat Villareal, Partner-in-Charge of the Dallas Office. "His formidable briefing skills will also be very welcome at the trial stage."

"Thomas's arrival in Dallas fits in with our Firm strategy of positioning top-notch appellate talent wherever the clients are, rather than keeping them bottled up in a Washington bullpen," said Glen Nager, leader of Jones Day's Issues & Appeals Practice. "He has also shown himself in tune with our philosophy of integrating appellate-level legal analysis and strategy with the work of trial lawyer colleagues at an early stage. Ultimately, it's all about optimizing the client experience and outcome."

Mr. Allen has represented clients in a broad range of substantive areas at various stages of the litigation process, including trial briefing, direct and interlocutory appeals, motions for rehearing, and mandamus proceedings. Among his notable matters, he successfully argued on behalf of a commercial tenant before the Supreme Court of Texas in a case that clarified an important area of state contract law. He has presented oral argument to a number of other appellate courts as well.

A graduate of Harvard Law School (J.D., cum laude, 1999; Notes Editor, Harvard Law Review) and Yale University (B.A., magna cum laude, 1994), Mr. Allen clerked for the Honorable Will Garwood, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, 1999-2000.
