SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 5, 2012) – Littler Mendelson, P.C. (Littler), the nation’s largest employment and labor law firm representing management, is celebrating  the 70th anniversary of its establishment in 1942. Founded by Robert Littler and Thomas Coakley in San Francisco and later joined by Arthur Mendelson in 1944, the firm has grown to encompass over 900 attorneys and 56 offices in three countries, and through its affiliations with Ius Laboris and TransAsia, to reach across the entire world.

“We are proud to celebrate seven decades of dedication to labor and employment law in addition to the achievements the firm has earned in providing comprehensive legal services to clients throughout the nation and globally,” said Marko Mrkonich, president and managing director of Littler. “Ultimately, Littler’s success is really about its people. Thriving in business is about creating a team where everyone understands what he or she is doing and everyone pushes in the same direction. We are thankful for our past and present lawyers and staff who have been instrumental in creating our unique organization and we look forward to another 70 years of success.”

About Littler’s History (In Brief):

The firm’s history is marked with rapid business development beginning early on in a post-World War environment. By the 1970s, Littler had helped employers understand the changing labor and employment laws stemming from the Civil Rights movement and had grown to 50 attorneys in its California offices. The firm continued to expand nationwide throughout the 1990s and in 1996, formed an alliance with Employment Law Learning Technologies (ELT) to provide employers with effective compliance and risk management solutions through online education.

In 2008, signifying the increasingly global labor challenges facing clients, Littler joined the Ius Laboris Global Alliance, an international consortium of leading employment and human resources practitioners.  Littler is the only U.S. law firm admitted in Ius Laboris, which has member law firms in 45 countries serving the employment needs of businesses in more than 100 nations.
Consistent with the spirit of the firm’s innovative use of technology in client service, a digital video spanning 70 years of Littler’s achievements can be viewed here [video <http://shared.littler.com/Tikit/external/video/littler70-press.html> ].

Littler’s single focus is on employment and labor law and comprises lawyers who practice in more than 36 areas of the law. In the past year, the firm has opened new offices in West Virginia, Nashville and Memphis, and its first Mexican offices in Mexico City and Monterrey. The firm is projected to grow to 1,000 lawyers by the end of 2012.
