DLA Piper today announced that Joe Kernen will become the Chair of the firm’s Philadelphia Litigation Group, stepping in for Carl Buchholz, who recently became the Office Managing Partner of the Philadelphia Office.

 Joe Kernen joined DLA Piper in 1992, and has a substantial complex litigation practice; and, served as hiring partner, on numerous committees, and as counsel in significant pro bono engagements.  He manages a practice concentrating on complex commercial litigation, class actions, mass toxic tort litigation, and employment related disputes. Among other engagements, he has defended insurance companies, lenders, motor vehicle and other consumer products manufacturers, and telecommunications companies in class action and other matters.

“Joe is has built a substantial practice and is a proven leader,” said Carl Buchholz, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Philadelphia office. “We expect he will continue to grow our litigation practice, while working collaboratively with the immensely talented lawyers in the office and throughout the firm.”
