NEWPORT BEACH, CA – Intellectual property, technology and media law firm One LLP welcomes litigators Gunnar Gundersen and David Jones as partners. 

From high-tech patent disputes to advocating for artists under the Visual Artists Rights Act, Mr. Gundersen has extensive experience with patent, copyright, trade dress, consumer rights litigation, art law and intellectual property consulting. 

Mr. Jones has a wide range of experience with intellectual property matters, including developing and managing patent portfolios, patent prosecution, trademarks and unfair competition, copyright, as well as developing strategies for corporations to protect, enforce and procure patents.

Gunnar Gundersen

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gundersen handled high-stakes intellectual property matters at Latham & Watkins LLP, and, prior to that, Irell & Manella LLP. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Judge O’Scannlain on the Ninth Circuit Court.

He has served as a member of several committees and boards, including the Intellectual Property Owners Association’s European Practice Committee and the California Patrons of the Arts at the Vatican Museums. He has also been published in several scholarly journals, and is regularly a guest writer and lecturer at various publications and organizations.

Mr. Gundersen obtained his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude and as valedictorian, and served as a member of the Pepperdine Law Review. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern California. In 2015, he received the Master's Certificate from the Academy of American Legal Writers, the highest national standard of excellence in legal writing, and earned the Jackson Achievement Award for his work in the program. 

David Jones

Prior to joining One LLP, Mr. Jones was a founding partner at Maschoff Brennan and, before that, a partner at Workman Nydegger—two leading intellectual property firms based in Utah. Before law school, he served as a patent examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office; and during law school, he clerked at Oblon Spivak McClelland Maier and Neustadt, LLP in Virginia and was an extern to Judge Paul Cassell.

Mr. Jones has been recognized as a Super Lawyer and is also an inventor with several issued United States patents in his name in the digital media and video game spaces.  Additionally, Mr. Jones is an active philanthropist who has undertaken a number of projects, including co-founding a federally recognized 501(c)(3) approved charity called Vietnam Water Project and coordinating a patent sub-license with the University of Utah to develop a specific charitable model.

Mr. Jones has served as an IP Moot Court Coach at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law and as a board member of the college’s Young Alumni Association. He obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law, and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah. 

While in law school, Mr. Jones was the recipient of the school’s Outstanding Achievement Awards for Intellectual Property Law, Trademark and Unfair Competition and Judicial Process. He was also a William H. Leary Scholar and a Negoya International Scholar.
