Bentley Stansbury is a shareholder with Keesal, Young & Logan in its Long Beach office, where his practice centers on all aspects of financial services litigation.  Each year from 2007 to 2015, he has been recognized by Law & Politics Magazine as one of Southern California’s “Rising Stars,” and he has obtained awards in favor of his clients, which have been published in the Daily Journal and Securities Awards Monthly.

Bentley has tried cases on both the plaintiff and defense side, with the majority of his practice focused on following areas:

Securities Litigation.  Bentley represents the Firm’s clients in all aspects of securities litigation.  He has represented broker-dealers, registered investment advisors, clearing firms, investment banks and individual financial advisors.  His recent experience includes the representation of the Firm’s clients in disputes pertaining to retail investments, clearing firm liability, AML, regulatory and SRO rule violations, trading away, and Ponzi schemes.

Mortgage Banking Litigation.  Bentley represents the Firm’s mortgage banking clients in connection with a wide array of litigation, including issues relating to loan origination, servicing, and the recording of financial instruments.  Bentley has recently represented parties in the defense of claims that involve HBOR, HAMP, wrongful foreclosure, fraud, RESPA, FDCPA, unfair business practices, judicial foreclosure, consumer lending, FCRA, CCRAA, boundary disputes, and lien priority.

Appeals.  Bentley has represented the Firm’s clients in actions before the California Court of Appeals, the Ninth Circuit, the Second Circuit, the California Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court.  His recent practice has required the preparation of writ petitions, as well as briefs on behalf of both appellants and appellees.

Employment Litigation.  Bentley has represented the Firm’s clients in employment disputes, which have involved claims of trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, defamation, harassment, retaliation, and corporate raiding.  Through his experience in this area, Bentley has represented the Firm’s clients in arbitration, civil actions, and family law court.

Business Litigation.  Bentley represents the Firm’s clients on both the plaintiff and defense side in litigation surrounding commercial contracts, real estate transactions, professional liability, and business-to-business disputes.  He also routinely represents third parties in dealing with sensitive discovery and trial subpoenas.

Bentley is member of the State Bars of both California and Washington, and has litigated cases before arbitral forums including FINRA, JAMS, and AAA.

He graduated in 1999 from the University of California, Berkeley (cum laude) where he was a member of the University’s men’s volleyball team for four years.  Thereafter, he obtained his juris doctorate from the University of Southern California in 2003.

Bentley has participated in the firm’s charitable foundation since 2003 and is active in raising awareness regarding mental health issues on behalf of the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI).
