A Partner in the Litigation Department, Jane O’Brien represents clients in a broad range of commercial matters, with a focus on complex commercial and securities litigation, regulatory defense, and antitrust litigation. Jane has participated in the defense of numerous class and individual actions in federal and state courts across the country, as well as congressional inquiries and regulatory investigations asserted by, among other agencies, the DOJ and SEC, and state attorneys general. Over the past several years, Jane has focused, among other issues, on assisting clients in navigating the unprecedented litigation and regulatory landscape that has unfolded in the wake of the global financial crisis.

Experience

Certain current representations include:

  • Citigroup in its subprime and credit crisis-related litigations and regulatory matters; and
  • News Corporation in antitrust matters pending against certain of its subsidiaries.

Jane also participates actively in pro bono matters. Representative matters include assisting her client in obtaining a retrial based on newly discovered evidence that he was wrongly convicted of murder over twenty years earlier, and trying to successful jury verdict a race discrimination action.

Jane graduated cum laude from New York University School of Law, where she was also an associate executive editor of the New York University Law Review. Following law school, Jane clerked for the Honorable Richard J. Holwell in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York before joining Paul, Weiss.
