John E. Lange

Jack Lange is a partner in the Corporate Department of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, based in the firm's office in Hong Kong.

Experience

Jack's practice is concentrated principally on mergers and acquisitions.  He is highly experienced in the representation of private equity funds and other financial investors in connection with their activities in Asia, including investment activities and portfolio company financing and acquisition activities. Jack has represented major private equity funds, as well as leading strategic investors in the technology, communications and media fields, in connection with complex and highly structured acquisitions, investments and fund raisings in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan.  He has completed numerous transactions for clients including KKR, Morgan Stanley Private Equity, FountainVest Partners, Oaktree Capital Management, Apollo Global Management, General Atlantic, The Carlyle Group and CDH.

Jack and the Paul, Weiss Asian private equity practice have been consistently recognized as market leaders. Jack was named in 2013 by Private Equity International  to its first "Legal Power 30," a list of 30 private equity lawyers globally identified by the industry and by their own peers as "the best of the best." Chambers Asia 2016 ranks Jack as the sole "Star Individual" for private equity/buyouts & venture capital investment in China among international firms. The Legal 500 Asia Pacific lists Jack as a leading private equity lawyer in Hong Kong, describing him as "immensely experienced" with "a magnificent reputation" and IFLR1000 2016 recognizes him as a "Leading Lawyer" in Hong Kong for mergers & acquisitions and private equity. He was also named in 2011 to Asian Legal Business magazine's "HOT 100" list, which recognizes the leaders and practitioners who have had the greatest impact on the legal market in Asia.

In assisting investors throughout the region, Jack draws on broad experience in corporate and project finance. He has assisted issuers and underwriters in connection with public offerings and private placements of equity and debt by companies based throughout the region.

In the project finance area, Jack has represented lenders and project developers in relation to a wide range of power, telecommunications, oil and gas, and industrial projects in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, India, Korea and elsewhere in Asia.

Jack served as President of The American Club Hong Kong in 2012 and currently serves on the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee of The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.

Jack is admitted to practice in New York, the District of Columbia and Hong Kong. He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Princeton University and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School. Prior to joining Paul, Weiss in 1988, Jack served in the Office of the Legal Advisor of the U.S. Department of State.
