Born and raised in Yakima, Terry graduated summa cum laude (highest honors) from Whitman College, number one in his class, and graduated in the top 15% of his class at the University of Washington School of Law. Terry has practiced law since 1976. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, and has been named one of the Leading 500 Plaintiff's Lawyers in America byLawdragon, in which he was featured in the February/March 2007 edition for taking on U.S. government in a tribal jail suicide case resulting in a record-setting settlement of $700,000.

In 2014, Terry achieved a settlement of nearly $7 million, the largest settlement in Yakima County history for a seven-year-old Yakima girl injured when she fell through a gap in the bleachers at Toppenish High School (http://www.yakimaherald.com/home/1950240-8/toppenish-schools-to-pay-69-million-for-2007). He also won an uninsured motorist award of $1,625,627 for a 75-year-old Wapato woman injured in an automobile collision, the largest uninsured motorist arbitration award in Yakima County history.   

Terry has recovered $4.1 million on a car crash case, $3.5 million on a school injury case, the largest settlement in the history of Kittitas County; the highest settlement in the history of Klickitat County; and the largest jury verdict on a cervical soft-tissue case in the history of Yakima County.  

Terry is a member, by invitation, of the Damages Attorney Round Table (DART), past president of the Washington chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and theAmerican Association for Justice

Terry was the first plaintiff's lawyer from Central Washington named a Super Lawyer™ by Washington Law & Politics and has received this honor every year since 2000. He has been named one of the 100 Top Super Lawyers™ as well as one of the Top 40 Plaintiff’s Super Lawyers™ in the state. Terry is rated "superb" by AVVO, an independent online lawyer rating system. He has served as President of the Yakima County Bar Association and has held many leadership positions for theWashington State Association for Justice (formerly the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association). He is a published legal author and a frequent lecturer at trial lawyer seminars.
