Munley Law has stood at the forefront of one of the most complex and consequential areas of personal injury practice for more than six decades. Before trucking litigation even had a name, the Munley family was already shaping the standards that attorneys across the country now follow.

The firm remains widely recognized as the premier trucking litigation firm in the U.S. today, having secured hundreds of millions in trucking-related recoveries. The firm obtained a record-setting $26M settlement for a truck-crash victim who suffered a traumatic brain injury, which at the time was the largest known recovery for an individual plaintiff in Pennsylvania. In 2025, Munley Law helped secure a $19.8M settlement for the family of three people killed by a distracted truck driver, underscoring their reputation as the firm called upon for reliable results in the most complex, high-stakes trucking cases.

Many of the firm’s recent resolutions illustrate the wide range of failures that can lead to catastrophic crashes: A beautician rear-ended by a tractor-trailer in a construction zone resulted in an $11M settlement; a mother struck head-on by a semi-truck reached a $9.95M recovery; and a family hit on their way to the beach obtained $8.7M after being rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. Munley Law secured an $8M settlement on behalf of the family of a U.S. Marine struck and killed by a tractor-trailer operated by an improperly trained driver, and obtained a $4.7M settlement for the victim of a crash caused by a fatigued trucker who fell asleep at the wheel and crossed multiple lanes of traffic.

Three of Pennsylvania’s four board-certified Truck Accident Lawyers – Marion Munley, Daniel W. Munley, and Katie Nealon – practice under the Munley banner, a concentration matched by only a small percentage of law firms in the country.

Marion and Dan have both served as Chair of the American Association for Justice’s Trucking Litigation Group, the nation’s leading organization for attorneys in this field. In a rare dual honor, they were the first recipients of the Robert W. Munley Award, a national recognition renamed in honor of their father, trucking-law pioneer and firm founder Robert W. Munley. The award is presented annually to attorneys who have done extraordinary work to advance trucking law, educate fellow trial lawyers and contribute to improved highway safety through legal advocacy. Marion was the first woman to chair the Group, and Dan additionally received its prestigious Ring of Honor for his contributions to trucking safety and advocacy.

“Critical evidence disappears quickly,” Dan Munley explains. “Our job is to protect our clients from being left behind in those first few hours after a crash.”

The firm’s partners are also key leaders in the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys, the Summit Council, the Litigation Counsel of America, the International Society of Barristers, the American Association for Justice and the American Board of Trial Advocates. Their influence extends beyond verdicts as the firm has helped shape industry standards, mentoring attorneys nationwide, and routinely speaking at national conferences on the most advanced strategies in catastrophic trucking cases.

Among Munley Law’s most influential contributions is its rapid-response protocol for catastrophic trucking cases, internally known as “Get That Truck!” Developed by Dan Munley, the system ensures the firm can move as quickly as the defense.

Within hours of being retained, Munley Law coordinates with experts to secure the vehicle, obtain impoundment orders, and preserve vital evidence from electronic control modules, cell phones, braking systems and maintenance logs. In an industry where trucking companies and insurers often deploy their own investigators within the first hour of a crash, Munley Law’s speed and precision have changed the expectations for plaintiffs’ attorneys nationwide.

“Critical evidence disappears quickly,” Dan Munley explains. “Our job is to protect our clients from being left behind in those first few hours after a crash.”

This early intervention, combined with the firm’s deep understanding of federal trucking regulations, has led to numerous multimillion-dollar outcomes. More importantly, it has pushed carriers to adopt safer practices and heightened awareness of dangerous behaviors like driver fatigue and distracted driving.

A Field-Defining Legacy

At the center of the business today is a second and third-generation family of trial lawyers who have embraced their legal legacy to the benefit of victims of commercial crashes nationwide.

The firm’s story begins with Robert W. Munley, a trial lawyer whose early work on catastrophic trucking cases helped introduce investigative and evidentiary practices that are now standard in the field. At a time when most attorneys approached truck crashes like oversized car accidents, Robert recognized their complexity; mechanical systems, corporate compliance, federal regulations and the extraordinary risks posed by fatigue, maintenance failures and long-haul pressure.

His pioneering strategy in one of the country’s earliest cases using a truck’s electronic data recorder (now colloquially known as the “black box”) not only produced a landmark verdict for a grieving family, but helped set the template for trucking litigation nationwide.

Today, the firm’s next generation has transformed that early blueprint into a national powerhouse. Marion, Dan, Bob, Caroline and Chris Munley now lead the practice their father built, bringing a rare combination of experience, specialization and family trust to every case.

In an era of consolidation and mega-firms, Munley Law’s majority-sibling leadership sets it apart. Each partner contributes a distinct strength – trial strategy, rapid response, firm management, client relations, pre-litigation analysis – forming a team that operates with uncommon cohesion and precision.

“Growing up, we learned from our father that every case was about more than compensation,” says Senior Partner Marion Munley. “It was about accountability and safety. That philosophy guides everything we do.”
