Katie Wellington is the General Manager of Litigation for the Boston Office and a partner in our Appellate & Supreme Court Litigation practice.  Wellington focuses on high-stakes appellate and complex business litigation in highly regulated industries, including life sciences, insurance, technology, and automotive.  She has extensive experience in class actions, arbitration, antitrust, intellectual property, and trade disputes, and she provides counseling on insurance matters.     

Wellington appears frequently before the U.S. Supreme Court, including working on twelve Supreme Court merits cases and numerous certiorari-stage briefs.  She argued the supplemental jurisdiction case Royal Canin v. Wullschleger before the U.S. Supreme Court, and her Supreme Court victories include the seminal election law case Moore v. Harper.

Wellington has deep experience litigating in the lower state and federal courts.  She has briefed and argued numerous appeals in the circuit courts, and she has worked on Rule 1292(b), Rule 23(f), and en banc petitions.  Her experience in state court includes cases before California, New York, Washington, and Hawaii courts.  Wellington also advises on dispositive motions, including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and motions opposing class certification.  

Wellington provides counseling in a number of areas, including insurance law, trade law, and constitutional law.  She is well-versed on the issues currently facing the insurance industry, and she is a valued contributor to Hogan Lovells Cadwalader's renowned trade-law practice.  Wellington is frequently called upon for her expertise on constitutional law questions.

Before joining Hogan Lovells Cadwalader, Wellington clerked for Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., on the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Brett Kavanaugh on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit (prior to his elevation to the U.S. Supreme Court).  Wellington received the Sears Prize at Harvard Law School, which is awarded to the top two students in the 1L class.
