A partner in the Paul, Weiss Restructuring Department, Kyle Satterfield advises corporate debtors, distressed investors, creditor groups and private equity sponsors in a broad range of restructuring matters, including chapter 11 cases, out-of-court workouts, liability management exercises, cross-border insolvencies and distressed acquisitions, as well as related litigation. Satterfield has extensive experience across a number of industries, including retail, cryptocurrency, technology and healthcare, as well as the utility, automotive and aerospace sectors.

In law school, Satterfield served as editor in chief of the Tulane Law Review. He has published scholarship on a variety of legal issues, and his work has been cited in several prestigious journals, including the Vanderbilt Law Review, the Washington University Law Review, the Notre Dame Law Review and the Oregon Law Review. Satterfield’s research on the historical background of Louisiana’s nonunanimous criminal jury verdict law has been recognized as an important contribution to the ultimately successful movement to overturn the law, and Satterfield has been cited as an authority in the relevant litigation.

Satterfield previously served as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. L. Felipe Restrepo on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, as well as the Hon. Brian A. Jackson, then-Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.

Satterfield serves in board roles and leadership positions for several community organizations in New York City, and he is actively involved in various local and global philanthropic efforts.

Satterfield’s recent matters include:

  • An ad hoc group of term loan lenders, including Oaktree Capital Management, in their acquisition of Superior Industries International, a Michigan-based aluminum wheel supplier
  • An ad hoc group of DISH Network convertible noteholders in certain strategic transactions completed by DISH parent company EchoStar, a fully integrated communication and content delivery leader and provider of technology, spectrum, engineering, manufacturing, networking services, television entertainment and connectivity services
  • Hornblower Group, a global leader in world-class experiences and transportation, in connection with its prearranged chapter 11 cases
  • Brookfield in a restructuring of its portfolio company, Altera Infrastructure, a leading international midstream services provider to the oil and gas industry, through prearranged chapter 11 cases in the Southern District of Texas. Brookfield provided a $70 million DIP loan and participated in an approximately $95 million equity rights offering. The company’s plan provided for the restructuring of over $1 billion in liabilities
  • group of convertible noteholders of JUUL, an American electronic cigarette company, in connection with litigation and an eventual settlement pursuant to which the noteholders’ convertible notes were converted to equity and the noteholders were provided with an opportunity to make an additional investment in the company
  • American Securities in connection with the chapter 11 proceedings of its portfolio company, Air Methods, the leading air medical service provider in the United States
  • Ryze Renewables, a Las Vegas-based developer of a biofuels refinery, in its chapter 11 cases in the Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, including a court-supervised 363 asset sale process
  • An ad hoc group of convertible noteholders of Clovis Oncology, a specialty pharmaceutical company, in the company’s chapter 11 cases and related sale process
  • An ad hoc group of DIP lenders and unsecured noteholders in the chapter 11 restructuring of Western Global Airlines, an independent provider of commercial, long-haul air cargo transportation services
  • An ad hoc group of first lien lenders of Serta Simmons Bedding, one of the leading producers of mattresses and bedding products in the United States and Canada, in connection with the chapter 11 cases filed by the company and its affiliates in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas
  • Revlon, a leading global beauty company, and certain of its subsidiaries in their chapter 11 cases in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York
