Seeger Weiss partner Caleb Seeley is a dedicated and driven litigator who has grown quickly since joining the firm in October 2019. His practice specializes in mass tort and class action litigation concerning pharmaceutical injury, medical devices, and hazardous consumer products. Seeley was promoted to partner in January 2023, underscoring his deep legal expertise, dedicated work ethic, and innovative approach to complex legal matters.

Seeley has played a key role in several significant multidistrict litigations. Across multiple bellwether trials in the 3M Combat Arms Earplugs Litigation, Seeley cross-examined numerous defense witnesses, including 3M’s primary corporate representative. In the trial of Luke Vilsmeyer, Seeleyb presented the direct examination of the case-specific causation expert whose testimony explained how 3M’s defective earplugs caused Mr. Vilsmeyer’s injuries and cross-examined 3M’s expert, helping secure a $50 million verdict for the veteran. He was also an essential part of the trial teams representing Lloyd Baker and William Wayman, which resulted in verdicts of $1.7 million and $55 million, respectively. Following more than four years of litigation, plaintiffs, led by the Seeger Weiss team, negotiated a global settlement worth more than $6 billion. The settlement ensures that service members and veterans will receive just compensation for the hearing injuries they sustained while using defective 3M earplugs.

Seeley is a key member of the Seeger Weiss team leading the In Re: Philips Recalled CPAP, Bi-Level Pap, and Mechanical Ventilator Products Litigation. In June 2021, Philips announced a worldwide recall of millions of its breathing assistance devices because of the potential health risks of defective sound-reducing foam that was found to degrade and expose patients to small foam particles and release toxic chemicals. Seeley plays an important role in the litigation, supporting Seeger Weiss’ founding partner, Chris Seeger, in his role as co-lead counsel to secure rightful compensation for those affected by Philips’ negligence. Seeley argued against a motion to dismiss filed by parent company Royal Philips for lack of personal jurisdiction. He also helped secure an uncapped settlement with Philips worth a minimum of $479 to resolve economic loss claims of users and payers impacted by the recall. Prior results do not guarantee or predict a similar outcome with respect to any future matter.

Before joining Seeger Weiss, Seeley served as a law clerk for Judge Dennis Jacobs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He earned his law degree from New York University School of Law, graduating magna cum laude, and there earned membership in the honorary Order of the Coif, was named a Butler Scholar, a Pomeroy Scholar, and a winner of the Judge Rose L. & Herbert Rubin Law Review Prize.

Seeley earned his undergraduate degree in economics from Duke University and his Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law in 2017. Before his career in litigation, Seeley was a partner in a long/short hedge fund and was an equity trader.
