WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 21, 2012 - The law firm of Troutman Sanders LLP is pleased to announce the addition of noted Clean Air Act attorney George Y. Sugiyama to its Environmental & Natural Resources practice group in Washington, D.C.

Prior to joining Troutman Sanders, Sugiyama was the chief minority counsel for the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, where he provided legal and policy advice on administrative law issues and focused on EPA oversight issues. Sugiyama has also worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, most recently as counsel to the Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation and earlier in his career in a number of positions. He was previously a partner at Dorsey & Whitney LLP and Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro.

At Troutman Sanders, Sugiyama’s practice will focus on regulatory policy, legislation and enforcement defense, with an emphasis on clean air and climate change.

“George is one of those rare attorneys who combines both substantive depth and strategic vision,” said Margaret Campbell, Co-Chair of Troutman Sanders’ Energy & Natural Resources practice group.  “His background at EPA, on the Hill, and as a practicing law firm attorney will add tremendous value for clients.”

Sugiyama received a J.D. from the University of Maryland, where he graduated in 1976, and received a B.A. from Drake University in 1970. He is admitted to practice in Maryland and Washington, D.C.
