Las Vegas, NV (May 7, 2012)  –   Lionel Sawyer & Collins is pleased to announce that Retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nevada A. William Maupin has been named as a shareholder at the firm. He was Of Counsel since he joined the Firm in 2010.  Justice Maupin’s practice focuses on litigation, arbitration, appellate work and legislative advocacy. 

Justice Maupin recently celebrated his 40th year in the legal profession.  His career encompasses highly-regarded positions in the public and private sectors, including serving as deputy public defender and as a partner in a respected Nevada law firm before his initial  judicial appointment by former Nevada Governor Bob Miller as a District Court judge in Clark County in 1993.  Justice Maupin was retained by popular election in 1994 and received the highest rating for retention in 1994 and 1996 in the Las Vegas Review-Journal/Clark County Bar Association surveys. 

Justice Maupin was elected to the Supreme Court of Nevada in 1996 and re-elected in 2002.  As Supreme Court Justice, he also received the highest rating for retention, in 1998 and 2004. Notable among his other honors, Justice Maupin received the First Amendment Champion Award from the Nevada Press Association and the Liberty Bell Award  from the Clark County Bar.  He retired as Chief Justice in 2009 and was welcomed by Lionel Sawyer & Collins the following year.  In addition to his legal work, Justice Maupin is proud to serve as a volunteer for the Friends of the Children of Las Cohabas, Haiti, Foundation, where he is part of a medical team that provides eye care to people in that impoverished country.
