Springfield, Illinois; Chicago - July 18, 2012 – The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that Robert E. Wagner has joined the firm’s Insurance Services Practice. He will practice in Hinshaw’s Springfield, Illinois office. Mr. Wagner was previously general counsel of the Illinois Department of Insurance from 2003 – 2012 and served as Acting Director of the agency from late-2011 to early-2012. Since 1989, he had served as general counsel for the Illinois Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan.

Mr. Wagner’s practice at Hinshaw will focus on national and international insurance matters and regulatory and compliance law, with an emphasis insurance taxation, transactions, health care reform, financial and market conduct examinations, solvency and receivership issues, and product approvals. He has substantial experience in both general and targeted market conduct examinations and advises clients on reinsurance matters, arbitrations, health insurance exchanges and related Affordable Care Act issues.

Mr. Wagner earned his J.D. (1981) from the University of Kentucky College of Law and his B.S. (1974) from Western Illinois University.
