PHILADELPHIA – December 12, 2012 – Cozen O’Connor, a top 100 U.S. law firm, announced today that firm shareholder James P. Cullen, Jr. has been appointed to the board of trustees for Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, a new private college preparatory school for low-income students. In keeping with Cozen O’Connor’s commitment to support the local communities in which it operates, the firm also is sponsoring four Cristo Rey students for an internship in the firm’s Philadelphia office through the school year.

The 25th school in the National Cristo Rey Network, Cristo Rey Philadelphia opened its doors to its inaugural freshman class of 125 students in September 2012. Motivated by the belief that no child’s future should be determined by their economic standing, Cristo Rey aims to provide a high-quality education to low-income students.

Cristo Rey combines rigorous college preparation with immersion in a professional working environment through the cornerstone of its curriculum: the work-study program. By working one day per week, students gain extraordinary developmental experiences that align well with their career interests. In turn, work-study sponsors such as Cozen O’Connor fund a substantial portion of the cost of their student interns’ education.

“It is an honor to be appointed to the board of trustees for Cristo Rey,” Mr. Cullen said. “Working with our motivated and talented students is a great experience. I look forward to strengthening Cozen O’Connor’s partnership with Cristo Rey, as we play our part to inspire the next generation of leaders.”

Mr. Cullen is a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Subrogation & Recovery Practice Group. He focuses his practice on the prosecution of construction defect, explosion, fire, and product liability claims. He has tried cases in state and federal courts throughout the Northeast, and is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
