ATLANTA (January 2, 2013) Han C. Choi, a noted public finance attorney and a member of Ballard Spahr’s Korea Initiative, has been named Managing Partner of the firm’s Atlanta office, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today.

Mr. Choi succeeds Sumner C. Rosenberg, who will remain at Ballard Spahr and maintain his active patent prosecution and trademark practice. Mr. Rosenberg has been the managing partner of the firm’s Atlanta office since it opened in 2008, following Ballard Spahr’s acquisition of his intellectual property firm, Needle & Rosenberg.

Said Mr. Stewart: "Han's appointment as Managing Partner in Atlanta tells a great story about the office. In just four years, it has grown from an intellectual property hub into a full-service operation that now also provides clients with exceptional representation in litigation, business and finance, public finance, and real estate. Han, a public finance partner, was part of that growth and he will be superb in guiding our continued expansion. We are very grateful to Sumner Rosenberg. His leadership made our significant growth in Atlanta possible."

“I’m proud to have been a part of the success of the Atlanta office, which is home to so many talented lawyers and staff,” said Mr. Rosenberg. “I’m also looking forward to returning to the full-time practice of law. Han is an exceptional lawyer and a compassionate and capable leader. I have every confidence that he will take us far.”

Mr. Choi represents government entities, underwriters, financial institutions, borrowers, and trustees in governmental and private activity bond issues. Over the past 20 years, he has worked on billions of dollars of transactions in more than 10 different states, handling securities, tax, real estate, nonprofit, secured lending, and post-issuance compliance matters.

Apart from his public finance work, Mr. Choi counsels for profit and nonprofit companies on matters involving financing, corporate governance, employment and vendor issues, securities, intellectual property licensing, and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Choi is also a member of the firm’s Korea Initiative, which offers counseling and advocacy to Korean and Korean-American businesses on matters of economic development, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, financing, and general commercial litigation.

“A growing number of companies have their headquarters or key offices in Atlanta, making the city an exciting place to live and to do business,” said Mr. Choi. “I am working with my colleagues to expand the breadth of the firm in the Southeast. The fact is, Ballard Spahr is a national firm with an extraordinarily deep bench of talented lawyers and that diversity of practice is becoming more apparent every day in Atlanta. While it’s true that we have an outstanding intellectual property practice, there is a lot more to Ballard Spahr.”
