Charlotte, NC (January 31, 2013) Littler Mendelson, P.C. (Littler), the world’s largest employment and labor law firm representing management, expands its attorney ranks in Charlotte with the addition of shareholder Jacob J. Modla. Modla has almost two decades of legal experience drawn from both private practice and corporate senior executive positions with Family Dollar Stores. His arrival follows several high-profile laterals that have joined the firm in a number of its national and international offices.

“We are pleased to have Jake join our Charlotte office,” said René Toadvine, managing shareholder of Littler’s Charlotte office. “His broad-based labor and employment law skill set combined with his corporate in-house counsel background will benefit our clients. We look forward to having him join our team as we build our practice throughout the region and nationally.”

Prior to joining Littler, Modla served as Vice President of HR Operations and Supply Chain at Family Dollar Stores. He was responsible for managing all of the company’s employment and labor law-related matters. In this capacity, he led multiple workplace investigations and responded to all administrative charges including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor and various state agencies. He was also responsible for all employee benefit programs and provided human resources support to the company’s distribution centers and transportation teams.

“I am excited to be joining the nation’s premiere labor and employment law firm,” said Modla. “I look forward to drawing on my private practice and in-house expertise, as well as Littler’s extensive attorney knowledge base to serve the firm’s clients.”

Additionally, Modla brings with him extensive litigation experience from his role as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at Family Dollar Stores. He has litigated all types of employment cases including complex class and collective action litigation, as well as Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Pay Act, Title VII and various state law claims.

Modla received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina and his B.S. from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina and South Carolina.
