Washington, D.C. and San Francisco, CA – February 5, 2013Latham & Watkins LLP is pleased to announce that J. Thomas Rosch, who recently completed his term as a Commissioner of the US Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”), has returned to the firm as Of Counsel in the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice Group within the Litigation Department. He will reside in the firm’s Washington, D.C. and San Francisco offices.

Rosch is a preeminent practitioner in the areas of antitrust and trade regulation law. He returns to Latham, where he was partner from 1994 to 2005, prior to his confirmation to the FTC in January 2006.  He has 40 years of experience in competition law and led more than 100 federal and state court antitrust cases. At the FTC, Rosch played a key role in revitalizing the Commission’s litigation efforts, particularly in relation to merger enforcement.

At Latham, Rosch will consult on a range of issues and across global markets. In addition to his US expertise, Rosch has deep experience and insights in European and Asian markets.

In 2003, Mr. Rosch was honored as “Antitrust Lawyer of the Year” by the California State Bar Antitrust Section. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers for more than 20 years and has been the Chair of both the California Bar Association and American Bar Association’s Antitrust Sections. He served as the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection director from 1973 to 1975, and was a member of the Special Committee to Study the Role of the FTC in 1989.

Rosch received his LLB from Harvard University in 1965 and was a Knox Fellow at Cambridge in 1962.
