Los Angeles, CA – March 21, 2013Dykema, a leading national law firm, is proud to announce that S. Christopher (Kit) Winter, a Los Angeles-based member in the Firm’s Litigation group and a member of Dykema’s Diversity Committee, has been elected to the Board of Governors of the Lesbian & Gay Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (LGLA). This organization – founded in 1979 and originally named Lawyers for Human Rights (changing its name to LGLA in 2002) – helps advance the interests of, and provide a leadership voice for, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) legal community in Southern California.

LGLA is an all-volunteer, nonprofit entity that operates as a bar association in Los Angeles County. It is an affiliate of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the national LGBT Bar Association and the Multicultural Bar Alliance of Southern California.

With his election to the LGLA Board of Governors, Winter will help direct the organization’s many initiatives, among them: continuing education, charitable efforts, community outreach, law school scholarship and mentorship programs, and public service activities.

“We’re delighted that LGLA has chosen Kit to join its Board of Governors. They’re sure to discover – as we already know – that in terms of leadership, focus and spirited commitment to diversity and inclusion, he has few equals,” said Sherrie Farrell, Chair of the Firm’s Diversity Committee.

Mike Wippler, Office Managing Member of Dykema’s Los Angeles office, adds, “Kit’s dedication to promoting inclusion within the legal community mirrors our firm’s long-standing commitment to those same ideals.”

Winter focuses his litigation practice on matters that relate to the Internet, intellectual property, and new media, and counsels clients on strategic planning and risk management.  In addition to his LGLA Board Membership, Winter donates his time to several organizations that provide services to homeless youth and to individuals with HIV/AIDS. In 2012, Winter participated – for the third time – in AIDS/LifeCycle, a seven-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS (and plans to ride again in 2014). He has also walked, run, danced and skydived in fundraising efforts for a variety of charitable organizations in Southern California.
