Washington, DC, Oct. 23, 2013…Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, a national law firm with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, DC, today announced that Anne Salladin has joined the firm as Special Counsel in the firm's Washington, DC-based National Security/CFIUS/Compliance Practice Group.

Ms. Salladin comes to Stroock after nearly 20 years in the Office of the Assistant General Counsel for International Affairs of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, which chairs the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. She is one of the only attorneys to enter private practice from Treasury who has experience advising the chair of CFIUS.

As Senior Counsel with responsibility for providing legal advice on CFIUS matters, she participated in hundreds of CFIUS reviews and investigations, negotiated mitigation agreements and advised on related compliance matters.  These transactions involved companies or investors from nearly every leading world economy.  In addition to her CFIUS work on behalf of the U.S. government, Ms. Salladin negotiated major government-to-government arrangements tied to the Mexican and Asian financial crises, and worked extensively on matters relating to sovereign wealth funds. She also has significant experience in sovereign debt restructuring.

In recognition of her significant contributions during her Treasury career, in particular her work on national security issues, Ms. Salladin is slated to receive the Secretary’s Meritorious Service Award.  The award nomination notes that she was “indispensable in helping [CFIUS] to protect U.S. security in dozens of complex transactions” and is “widely acknowledged as an expert on sovereign debt [and] a key player in the U.S. efforts to secure global economic stability through the design of sovereign debt restructuring regimes.”

Stroock’s National Security/CFIUS/Compliance group has grown rapidly under the leadership of Chris Griner, a preeminent advisor on foreign investment cases before the CFIUS and the Managing Partner of Stroock’s Washington, DC office.  "Anne Salladin's distinguished government career and contributions to CFIUS matters at Treasury are well-known, and include working to revise and implement the CFIUS regulations," said Griner.  “Her practical experience with complex international transactions and her thorough understanding of the CFIUS process will be invaluable to our clients and our National Security group.”

Ms. Salladin is the third senior government official to join Stroock in the last few months:  The firm’s DC office opened with Bob Plaze, who had been Deputy Director of the Division of Investment Management with the SEC, and recently added Tram Nguyen, who had been Chief of the Private Funds branch of the SEC's Division of Investment Management.

“Our new Washington office is an important and logical expansion of our firm, and attracting top legal minds like Anne is a priority for us" said Stuart Coleman, Stroock's co-Managing Partner.  “Chris Griner has done a tremendous job of establishing, at Stroock, an extraordinarily talented and experienced team to support his National Security/CFIUS/Compliance practice."  Added Griner, “In my career, I’ve never had a better team available to serve our clients.”

"Stroock is a tailor-made opportunity for me," said Ms. Salladin. "Chris Griner is the leading authority in CFIUS/National Security law, and joining his team is a natural fit.  They are well-known for their expertise in cross-border transactions, which suits my government experience in international matters.”

Before joining the Treasury Department, Ms. Salladin spent several years with a major international law firm in New York City, where she practiced corporate and securities law. Ms. Salladin began her career as an officer with the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, where she had responsibility for relationships with Japanese financial institutions.  She received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A. from Williams College.
