(New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago) November 21, 2013 – MoloLamken LLP, a premier national litigation boutique, today announced that veteran trial lawyer Andrew R. DeVooght has joined the firm as a partner from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois.

DeVooght served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the office’s Criminal Division, where he prosecuted a broad range of federal crimes, including investor fraud, healthcare fraud, criminal copyright infringement, and theft of government program funds.

Before joining the government, DeVooght was a partner with Winston & Strawn, where he handled complex civil litigation and white collar criminal defense. He began his career as an associate at noted Chicago litigation boutique Bartlit, Beck, Herman, Palenchar & Scott. He clerked for Judge Michael S. Kanne of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

DeVooght brings with him substantial experience as a first-chair courtroom advocate. He has handled jury and bench trials as well as arbitrations and has argued a number of cases in the U.S. Court of Appeals. While at Winston & Strawn, the UK publication Benchmark Litigation named him a “Future Star” of the Chicago litigation bar.

“We are delighted to have Andy join us and expect he will hit the ground running,” said firm co-founder Steven Molo. “He is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer who has handled matters in all the substantive areas in which we practice -- business litigation, IP, and white collar defense.”

“Andy’s experience and credentials are exceptional,” added firm co-founder Jeffrey Lamken. “His addition is in keeping with our commitment to growing an A+ team and providing the highest quality representation to our clients.”

MoloLamken caught DeVooght’s interest because of the firm’s interesting mix of cases, its high-quality team, and its client-focused approach to its work.

“Looking at the substance of the work MoloLamken is doing across the board and the talent they’ve assembled, it’s exciting to be a part of that,” DeVooght said. “This is a firm that understands the marketplace and has structured itself to meet client needs and at the same time positioned itself for financial success. Clients trust them because they listen and because no one is going to out-work them; no one is going to out-think them.”

Building a Solid Team in a Deliberate Fashion

Steven Molo and Jeffrey Lamken formed the firm in October 2009 after having held leadership positions at large, full-service firms. They saw a need for a different model for handling high-stakes matters. MoloLamken was founded on the belief that complex litigation is most effectively handled by smaller teams comprised of smart, highly experienced lawyers who are focused on results rather than process. Instead of using the traditional hourly billing method, the firm prefers fee arrangements centered on value that provide clients with predictability and reward the firm for results.

MoloLamken has quickly developed an impressive track record with high-profile matters. It is a leader in representing investors in litigation over complex financial structured products; has earned major appellate wins, including patent victories in the Federal Circuit and several wins in the U.S. Supreme Court; and will start a high-profile white collar criminal trial involving the former money manager for the NBA Players Association in New York federal court on Dec. 2.

The firm’s clients include leading corporations, private equity firms, hedge funds, executives, investors, inventors, and individuals. While its three offices are in the U.S., its clients are worldwide, including Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America.

“The market has responded favorably to our business model as we’ve grown from five to 21 lawyers in just four years, a period during which many firms have been retrenching,” Molo said.

“The quality of our people and the sophistication of the matters we handle has been extraordinary,” Lamken added.

About Andy DeVooght

With the hiring of DeVooght, three of the firm’s nine partners will be former U.S. Supreme Court clerks. He clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist during the 2002 term and Judge Kanne on the 7th Circuit from 2000 to 2001.

DeVooght earned his B.A. from the University of Georgia, magna cum laude, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He also captained the men’s varsity swim team, was named an NCAA Academic All-American, and was selected as the Southeastern Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year.

He earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law, summa cum laude, in 2000, was named to the Order of the Coif, and served as the Notes and Comments Editor of the Law Review. He served as a visiting professor, teaching federal courts and constitutional law, at the law school from 2005 to 2006.
