LOS ANGELES – Barnes & Thornburg LLP has added corporate attorney Lee Kolodny as a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office to further expand the firm’s transactional capabilities on the West Coast and beyond.

Formerly a partner at Akin Gump, Kolodny has nearly 20 years of experience in providing legal advice to clients in complex domestic and international transactions.  Kolodny focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, finance, joint ventures, strategic alliances and partnerships, securities, and cross-border transactions.  Kolodny also advises clients on issues related to corporate governance, securities laws and general corporate matters and agreements.  He represents clients in a number of industries, including manufacturing, gaming, media, sports and entertainment, technology, real estate, consumer products, and hospitality.

“Lee’s practice fits very well with and augments the firm’s corporate practice in California and nationally,” said David C. Allen, managing partner of the firm’s L.A. office. “We continue to recruit high-quality lateral attorneys, such as Lee, who bring to the firm substantive experience for our clients’ benefit.”

“We’re excited to have someone of Lee’s caliber join our growing corporate practice here,” said Jason M. Karlov, chair of the firm’s Entertainment and Music Practice Group and administrator of the L.A. office’s Transactions Department. “The firm has quickly built a full-service transaction department in Los Angeles that accentuates our strengths in various industries.”

Kolodny is a frequent presenter on a variety of topics, including mergers and acquisitions, securities, financing transactions, Indian gaming and the representation of sovereign entities.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University prior to earning his master’s and law degrees from the University of Southern California. He is admitted to practice in the state of California and serves on the Board of Directors of Upward Bound House, a Santa Monica-based nonprofit corporation founded to eliminate homelessness among low-income seniors and families with minor children.
