WASHINGTON, D.C., April 2, 2014 -- Tom DiBiagio, the former U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland and a seasoned litigator and criminal defense attorney, joined Baker Botts L.L.P. today as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

In addition to his exemplary work as a U.S. Attorney, DiBiagio has defended clients for more than 28 years in federal and state courts and before government agencies in corporate criminal matters of the highest complexity, with a focus on white collar criminal, FCPA, environmental and antitrust issues, as well as internal investigations, compliance and complex civil litigation.

“Tom’s extensive experience in public and private practice provides him with insights into white collar defense and internal investigations, as well as complex criminal and civil trial work that will benefit our clients on a wide variety of issues,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner Andrew Baker. “Adding Tom to our strong white collar team continues our long-standing commitment to provide clients with the experienced, informed and creative legal talent expected of a global law firm such as Baker Botts.”

In 2001, DiBiagio was appointed U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland by President George W. Bush. Under his leadership, the district office successfully prosecuted significant public corruption and major violent crime and drug trafficking cases. DiBiagio has published numerous articles on Federal Criminal Law and has been an instructor in Constitutional Law at the United States Naval Academy.

In recent private practice matters, DiBiagio has guided clients through matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, criminal environmental investigations and corporate compliance exercises. He is also representing a global corporation in connection with a criminal investigation conducted by the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice regarding potential antitrust and fraud violations.

“Tom has established himself as one of the most seasoned white collar and trial lawyers in the country,” said John Taladay, Partner in Charge of the Washington office of Baker Botts. “He has the ability -- honed through his years of experience before various government agencies and in numerous courtrooms around the country -- to deliver outstanding results for the organizations he represents. We are pleased to welcome him to our stellar Baker Botts white collar litigation team.”

Prior to joining Baker Botts, DiBiagio was a partner at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP. He earned his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Dickinson College.
