June 16, 2014 London Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Paul Davies will be joining the firm’s London office as a partner in the Environment, Land & Resources Department.

Davies will be joining Latham & Watkins from Macfarlanes, where he advises clients on the environmental aspects of corporate transactions in the UK and overseas, in addition to regulatory and contentious issues. He has significant experience in a wide variety of other environmental work, including the management of contaminated land, the insurance of environmental risk and advising on climate change issues.

Davies is the fifth partner hire announced by Latham’s London office since January, following the appointments of Nick Benson from Weil Gotshal & Manges, Kem Ihenacho from Clifford Chance, Lucy Oddy from Berwin Leighton Paisner and Tom Alabaster from The Carlyle Group. The office now has over 250 fee earners including 65 partners.

Nick Cline, Latham & Watkins’ London Office Managing Partner, said: “Our growth in London, particularly our investment in our corporate and litigation practices, has created an obvious opportunity to develop a market-leading transactional and contentious environmental practice, while also significantly enhancing our existing EU environmental regulatory credentials. Paul is widely regarded as a leader in environmental law and was the standout candidate to help grow our practice in London, in Europe and also in China. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

“Paul’s arrival greatly strengthens our environmental capability in London and Europe, two markets with great potential for us to expand our leading global practice,“ added Bob Wyman, Global Chair of the Environment, Land & Resources Department at Latham.

“Latham has a top-ranked global environmental practice, and a reputation for advising on the most complex cross-border transactions involving lawyers from multiple jurisdictions. This international capability will give me an ideal platform to further develop my practice,” said Davies.

Davies has an LLB (Hons) and M.Phil from the University of Wales and completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, York. He qualified as a Solicitor with Slaughter and May in 1997.
