Bird Marella is proud to announce former Public Counsel President & CEO, Hernán D. Vera, has joined the firm as its newest Principal. Mr. Vera will focus his practice on complex civil litigation and class action defense. He also looks forward to counseling and advising clients on risk management in public matters where a problem-solving, community approach is essential to the success of the litigation.

"Hernán's substantial experience in private practice combined with his significant work on consumer class actions at Public Counsel will expand Bird Marella's thriving class action practice," said Terry Bird, Founder and Principal with Bird Marella.

Co-managing Principal, Paul Chan added, "Hernán's energy, leadership acumen and strong ties within the public and private sectors will contribute greatly to the continued success of the firm. We look forward to having him join our team of litigators."

During Mr. Vera's tenure at Public Counsel, he created an innovative impact litigation unit, launched a national project to represent veterans, and more than doubled the size of the organization. In 2013 alone, Public Counsel provided more than $80 million in free legal assistance to 30,000+ individuals and nonprofit organizations.

Prior to Mr. Vera's time with Public Counsel, he was a litigator with O'Melveny & Myers. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from University of California, Los Angeles and his Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, from Stanford University.

"I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the top flight team at Bird Marella," said Mr. Vera. "I've long admired the quality and depth of the firm's lawyering, professionalism, and commitment to the community. I can't imagine a better place to launch a litigation practice."
